Abandoned Japanese island captured on Google Street ViewGunkanjima or "Battleship Island" is a nickname for the island of Hashima which looks a lot like a battleship from afar.
Google sent employees to explore the completely abandoned Japanese island to capture it in Google Street view.
The results are these eerie series of stills, reminding one of other Google Street View captures of abandoned places like Fukushima.
The island was inhabited for around a hundred years, primarily by coal miners harvesting the rock until the 1970s, when petroleum mostly supplanted coal in Japanese industry.
As the coal mines shut down, the island's approximately 5,000 inhabitants had no choice but to pack up and head back to the mainland.
The island was finally reopened to the public in 2009, after 35 years of being declared off-limits. [/URL]

* Christie's auction house in New York City reported that a May 15th sale of a painting of the late actress Bea Arthur--nude from the waist up--by the artist John Currin in 1991 had sold for $1.9 million. Currin said that he made the painting from a photograph of Arthur clothed, and Arthur, known for her roles in TV's "Maude" and "Golden Girls," appears younger in face and body in the painting than on the TV shows. * Maryland state troopers caught sight of a drummer working out on the shoulder of Interstate 695 near Windsor Mill Road in Baltimore on May 21st, at about 10:30 a.m. According to the troopers, the man had run out of gas and had decided to set up his drum kit to practice while he waited for assistance. When a utility truck arrived, supplying gasoline, the drummer packed up and resumed his travels. [Baltimore Sun, 5-21-2013] Philip Garcia, 41, was arrested in April in Perris, Calif., after he allegedly crawled naked through the doggy door in a neighboring home and announced to the female resident that he was there for sex. A 38-year-old man was arrested in Wichita, Kan., in June and charged with trying to rob a Spangles restaurant by presenting a cashier with a demand note. He was arrested a short time later--and easily, because the demand for money was written on the back of a check-reorder form that contained his name and address.

I will agree about how the world needs more idea like this one to come to fruition.
Mankind has always worried more about things like profit, religion and politics then the common good most of the time.
They also forget that old Native American saying that we "are out children's ancestors." We know we are messing up this planet and we just don't care.
Cleaning up our habits and deep space exploration should be our primary focus...but there is no money in those ventures yet so...

I never heard of the Cup Tree before, nor the Shoe fence, but I am surely more wary of women who offer me a cup of tea now lol!

10 Mysterious Fires Caused By GhostsSometimes, the cause of a fire is obvious: arson, bad wiring, a careless cigarette, a kid playing with matches. But occasionally, a fire’s origin is a mystery—perhaps supernatural, the result of an angry spirit or poltergeist tormenting the living. Hoax or haunting? You be the judge. Here are 10 instances where otherworldly powers took the blame for the burning. picture541

Cottage Grove National Guard building A group of women who claim they can detect paranormal activity say there is something strange in the downtown neighborhood that houses the National Guard Armory.
And with the city’s blessing, they have done some investigations at the 33,080-square-foot, 1931 armory, concluding that there are several spirits with ties to the military who hang out there.
City Manager Richards Meyers, who granted access to the Coast Ghost group, said he would give the same access to anyone who asked to see the building, which the city acquired in 2010 for $395,000 and plans to use as a community center.
The members of Coast Ghost — who live in Reedsport, Florence, Coos Bay and Springfield — recently toured the building, accompanied by Meyers and city Councilor Jake Boone — the resident skeptic — to demonstrate what they said they found on earlier visits.
The first time they visited they got the most activity they had ever seen in the building, said the group’s leader, Ann Fillmore.
“Oh,” she said pointing at a laptop screen, “the medic’s room is always active.”
Most of their evidence consists of floating circles they called “orbs,” some of which had faces, caught with digital cameras and processed through filters.
The women have not seen any full-blown apparitions, but said they feel the faces in the orb are convincing enough. They have used an electrician’s tool, the K-2, which they said can detect electromagnetic fields, as well as flashlights and video and still cameras in their search for ghosts.

Lovely indeed, but I moved this to Multimedia as these are not real aliens (oh my beating heart if they were), although they could take me to warp speed any day...
