The afterlife of once-grand theatersPart of the allure of exploring derelict and abandoned buildings is the chance of finding a relic from the past. The excitement of entering a danger zone, ignoring prohibitions to “keep out,” is another draw —
as is the possibility of seeing a ghost.
Since the 1990s, photographer Julia Solis, along with artist collaborators and friends, has lead history-based scavenger hunts, art installations, and performances in abandoned buildings to call attention to their potential as places for creative expression. These experiences led Solis to start a photography project that culminated in a book, Stages of Decay, which explores the architecture and ornamentation of neglected and forgotten theaters across the United States and Europe.

Wraithlike figures and the spaces that rule them Read more: www.dailystar.com.lb/Culture/Art/2013/Jul-06/222725-wraithlike-figures-and-the-spaces-that-rule-them.ashx#ixzz2YFGTAUwb (The Daily Star :: Lebanon News :: Ghost stories are, ultimately, optimistic things. Whether the understated, antiquarian tales popularized in the early 20th century by M. R. James, or their gratuitous contemporary successors punctuated by decapitation and writhing possession, all assume that the human spirit lives on after death.
“Of Places and Dust,” the comprehensive semiretrospective of analogue work by photographer and filmmaker Caroline Tabet, currently on show at Karantina’s Art Factum Gallery, evokes something of the Jamesian approach to ghostly presence, eschewing explanation in favor of implication and suggestion.
It is not only human figures that are depicted as phantasms, but the spaces these figures inhabit – for the most part crumbling buildings, derelict in peacetime. At once haunted and haunting, these abandoned places have a presence as powerful as that of their human subjects, their spirits enduring even as their architectural carcasses decay.

Paper lanterns create UFO buzz over Portland The Rose City was a bit of a buzz with talk of UFOs seen from the waterfront in downtown Portland before Thursday night's Fourth of July fireworks show.
"It stayed in the triangle shape and flew straight for about three minutes," she told KATU-TV. "Then it shifted some and then disappeared."
But while they may have seen other-wordly, an expert tells KATU-TV that they were just likely lit paper lanterns to celebrate the holiday.

Presidential GhostsThe Fourth of July is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate the birth of the United States then by talking about some of the more paranormal connections shared by our presidents and those around them.
There are the ghosts connected to former presidents, such as the ghost of the man who sold most of Washington D.C. to the US Government, David Burns. There is also the infamous ghost of slain President Abraham Lincoln, who has been seen by future presidents and first ladies as well as distinguished guests.
Another paranormal connection to Washington D.C. is the mysterious connection between Lincoln and John F Kennedy, another president taken down by an assassins bullet while in office.newsfromthespiritworld.com/2013/07/03/paranormal-presidents/ picture541
