What I'm thinking with the Miner's Lettuce is that the center of the window box stays damper then the ends. I'm just guessing. Could those little flying bugs have done this? I doubt that the bugs did this. I'd check the drainage on that window box. Also, how many times are you watering per week? According to the chart in this article, twice a week should be enough. I've been alternating light and heavy water days mostly but that looks like to much.

Do the bugs seem to be drawn to the other plants? They do seem to be drawn to the plant but it might just be because of the dead vegetation.

I think so to. It might be a succulent. I chose my bean to plant. I'm going with BURPEE GARDEN BEAN Tendergreen. It has the longest list of pertinent criteria for me like; compact, high yield, stringless, heirloom. I combined seed starting mix with potting soil to try an avoid giving them to much nitrogen. The beans should help me with reusing my soil. They fix nitrogen in the soil. When the beans are done I can plant lettuce with the same soil.

I was already thinking of posting about it being a cursed planter and maybe getting rid of it. It is the only ceramic window box that I have.

I'm glad to hear that something is growing in it.

If the package is correct the beans should be ready August 8th. I've been wondering on the back of seed packs it has days to germinate and days to harvest. Now days to germinate if obviously from the planting date but does the days to harvest start from the planting date or from when the plant germinates (shows itself)?

Just seen that growing your greens guy say about a fungus fly that you get from over watering. I'm thinking that might be what I seen around my miner's lettuce when the center died.

I just made 2 of my gnat traps that I usually use in the fall with vinegar, water, and dish soap. I place them on each side of my miner's lettuce.

I just watched a YouTube video where a lady sprayed a grasshopper with a mix of dish soap & water and in 2 minutes it killed it. I think I could see the grasshopper throwing-up right after it was sprayed.
