I seen a few places that if I get an 80mm I may not need a moon filter. Some say its for 4 inches and larger. 80 mm is like 3.149 inch. I might get one anyway and some color filter especially blue.

Sherlew can you think of a better telescope that I should get? Are you concerned about getting mugged while carrying a telescope? Maybe the trick is to get something you can carry in a case that wouldn't look like it contains a telescope.

Or better yet, try to find a way to carry a telescope in a backpack.

I plan on using it right outside of my building. I am planing on getting the carrying case for it. In stead of going out and using it in the early evening (that would attract to many evil beings) I plan on getting up super early and going out to use it at like 4 in the morning.

Refracting scopes are suppose to be better for planets and the moon which is what I'll start out viewing but for viewing in colder weather a reflecting scope is suppose to be better.

My plan for today is to get a gift card and send for a telescope. Sherlew what scope do you think I should get?

As far as eyepiece location goes I'm pretty sure that I would be more comfortable with one placed further up like those on reflecting telescopes.

You should get the one you want, though. I'd try to get one with a dual eyepiece so you could use both eyes at once.

Hmm and you might have a better chance of observing without worrying about the bad guys later in the year when it's colder outside.
