An older one, and one I had not seen in years, and it stands up well for what it is, a parody/comedy film.
Joe Dante had no desire at first to make a sequel to the hit movie Gremlins, saying that the story was closed. It was not until Warner gave Dante complete creative control of the movie that he agreed to do it.
What arose was a parody of the first movie with the controversial Phobe Kates 'Santa Claus/dead father in the chimney' speech from the first film being sent up for laughs, and TV film critic Leonard Maltin giving a review of the first Gremlins movie and putting it down, something he had done in real life at the time of the first movies release.
It also is a satire of modern technology and of the famous land developer Donald Trump, as the comparisons between him and the owner of the Clamp building are hard to misinterpret.
This movie might not be for everyone, and most of the darker elements that ran through out the first Gremlins feature are removed in favor of comedy and a more kid friendly atmosphere, but it is still worth a watch now and again.
