The sprouts do not come into contact with the stocking. You place the sprouter in the stocking and use it to spin the sprouts to dry them.

I was looking at other seeds for sprouting and if lentils work out good for me then I might try like Amaranth, Garbanzo, Mung, and maybe Buckwheat. I seen some guy made a report about Buckwheat causing light sensitivity and then I read that people eating haven't found that.

Not yet, not sure what I want to sprout yet. Do you want to try sprouting and do you know what you would like to try? Some of them you must have ate already like Mung bean sprouts and maybe alfalfa?

I started my first batch of sprouts last night at about midnight and I drained and rinsed them this morning already. I guess they should be ready some time Monday. This is the sprouter that I am using. www.sproutamo.com/

I grew alfalfa sprouts a long time ago. We didn't always eat them all in time, though. I'm still thinking of trying lentil sprouts, though. I'll have to buy some and the cheesecloth as well. I'll try and do some shopping early next week to pick some up.

I seen on a youtube video yesterday a lady that said if beans give you gas that sprouting them gets rid of that. That would be nice. We soak the beans we cook them in the crock pot overnight, drain and rinse them in the morning, then add fresh water before cooking. That seems to help, but it's not perfect.

OMG, Check this out! Besides sprouting Amaranth you can also pop it like popcorn. Cool, it looks like you need a lid, though. It looks like some of it popped out.

I seen some guy made a report about Buckwheat causing light sensitivity and then I read that people eating haven't found that. That was most likely bogus. I'm not seeing anything on it on any Honcode certified sites.

I just peeked in on my lentils and there are little points sticking out of them now.

If you scroll to the bottom of this page sprouting.com/american/seeds-american/buckwheat-hulls-on-group-a.htmlIt says this. Note on photosensitization ***NOTE: new information as of August 20, 04 - There is some information indicating that buckwheat shoots in large quantities may cause a reversible photosensitization that includes uncomfortable symptoms. We are currently recommending moderate consumption of buckwheat shoots, and complete avoidance if any light sensitivity occurs. A short article by Gilles Arbour, discoverer of this problem, is available at www.gillesarbour.com/buckwheat.php. There is a link to further very detailed information. Aug 15/11- Since first posting this warning in 2004, we have continued to enjoy buckwheat shoots on a regular basis without any of the above symptoms, nor have any of our customers reported any negative symptoms.
