I will probably be sending for a kit to start growing sprouts before the end of the month. I will use the jar method. Sherlew if you were going to start growing sprouts where would you get your supplies from? I was thinking mostly about alfalfa sprout but I just heard that they can inflame arthritis. Is that true?

Clover has side effects, too. Web MDBoth alfalfa and clover are used as medicinal herbs, of course. I suspect that only people with certain medical conditions, or who take medications, would have serious side effects. Other things can be sprouted, though. Sprouting Grains and Seeds at Home

I'm leaning towards getting supplies at the local co-op grocery store since many of the customers are into sprouting. The seeds and legumes should be from a clean source.

Regarding clover; there are many varieties in the world, and I don't know how many are actually edible.

Over there you are immersed in the Hippy culture and have things like that. Where I'm at is like a culture of closed minded haters who get a perverse thrill from their wrongful discrimination. Most stores tried selling sprouts at one time. I guess they did do so well. Walmart doesn't have them. I will look in Giant Eagle the next time I'm there. But no where here sells the kits or seeds. I seen several places on line. Which on-line places look good to you?

Those should be good. Any one of those sites should be fine. You should be OK of you wash the seeds first.

As for the usual grocery store, I'd stick to things that are safe to eat out of the bag. Beans from suppliers at these stores usually assume that their products will be cooked and may not be that scrupulous at keeping the it clean. Remember, if the sprouts start smelling funny, toss them in the trash.

I've been thinking about it, but not sure about doing it. We have lots of jars, but I'd need to check to see if we have cheesecloth or not.

I just sent for one of those easy sprouters and 16 oz of green lentil seeds. I had to hold myself back. I go overboard some times with ordering things. I am just going to give this a try. If it works and I like it I'll order more.
