He did not invent this and it's not new. I learned about in power mechanics class wayyyy back in junior high school. People in the past have gotten in trouble for doing this. Back then I was told it was stealing. I remember there was a story of some farmer or rancher who strung his own line parallel to a power line to get power from it.

A circuit does not have to be physically connected to another circuit to draw power from it, that is how all transformers work weather it uses a straight line or coil.

It does work and it could end up being a good and useful thing. They may allow it by capping how much power it is allowed to draw. If everybody ends up having multiple devises that use this it might get very out of hand for power companies. A good study or studies will have to be made.
