All of Microsoft's products leave much to be desired. It's one of many reasons that I changed to Linux.

How did you do that? Does that mean you bought an Apple computer?

No, you can run Linux on the same type of computer you find Windows on. You can even have both of them on the same computer with what is call a dual boot setup. PCs set up this way have a boot menu when you turn them on. Just select the operating system and hit enter. There is also a way to change between them. It is possible to run Linux on an Apple computer, too.

Are you using the Ubuntu build Sherlew? If you want an easy way to fix that old XP machine look up Ubuntu PD. I recently gave away my old XP machine to someone who did not have a working PC, but still might put it on this old XP laptop I was given if I ever find the time and cash to replace the cord, battery and get it a wi-fi card as it is so old it does not have that built in. www.ubuntu.com/desktop

Yes Tom, I'm using Ubuntu 12. It works well on my netbook and best of all is free.
