I love Sea Shantys and I have been collecting them for a while. Could you please list the ones that you know of here? It might help me to find some to add to my collection. Here is a short list as an example. Drunken Sailor Blow the Man Down WHISKEY O Yo Ho Ho (And a Bottle of Rum) QUARE BUNGLE RYE BOSTON COME - ALL YE (or THE FISHES) BLOW, BOYS, BLOW

You know I think I will find this an interesting thread, I never gave much thought to sea shanties before.

I haven't thought of them much in the past, but they can be rather interesting.

[glow=red,2,300]DRUNKEN SAILOR[/glow]
I read once that this was one of if not the last real sea shantys. It came about with the introduction of the clipper ships. The sailors of the new clipper ships had to do alot more work and be faster about it. They had a problem with the tradistional sailors lazy, slow, and drunk.

Now that's interesting. I love the clipper ships. They're so beautiful.

Hi Sherlew This song is one of the most fun songs to sing and play ;D My favorite verse is "Shave his belly with a rusty razzor". I heard another version that goes "Shave his belly with a hoop iron razzor".

Donkey Ridin'
We watched Moby Dick the other day with the star trek guy and someone sung a bit of this on there.
Adding the lyrics to this one as I like it so much and am trying to cover it on guitar...hope you do not mind Snap...TomSpy77
Way hey and away we go
Donkey riding, donkey riding
Way hey and away we go Ridin' on a donkey.
Was you ever in Quebec
Launchin' timber on the deck?
Where ya break yer bleedin' neck
Ridin' on a donkey!
Was you ever 'round Cape Horn
Where the weather's never warm?
Wished to God you'd never been born
Ridin' on a donkey.
Was you ever in Miramichi
Where ye tie up to a tree,
An' the girls sit on yer knee?
Ridin'on a donkey
Was you ever in Fortune Bay
See the girls all shout, "Hooray!
Here comes dad with ten weeks pay"
Riding on a donkey.
Was you ever in London-town
See the King he does come down
See the King in his golden crown
Riding on a donkey
Was you ever in Providence
Where it all seems to make sense
That is, until you commence
Riding on a donkey

The song is about one of the first engines used and they called it a donkey. They used it for loading cargo on ships and other things.
