Prehistoric Hazardous Waste Sites

There are many sites a cross the Earth where it looks like nuclear weapons were used in prehistoric times. If there were advanced ancient societies that made nuclear weapons and maybe used nuclear power. Wouldn't they have had nuclear waste sites and could we find them. Seems like something that should stand out. Has anyone ever looked?
