What I miss from my childhood is Chiller Theater with Bill Cardille (Chilly Billy). chillertheatermemories.com/I wish they would bring it back or something like it. I think that in some parts of the country they still show something similar. Doesn't Elvira have a show?

I unfortunately missed both the TV show of this genre, including Elvira's, and the live shows you referred to, Patrick. Fortunatley, though, one can glimpse a bit of the magic through Youtube and other video sources. I posted a Youtube video awhile back. Think I'll post a link here. "American Scary"

Oh, yes, they interview "Chilly Billy," Neil Gaiman and Leonard Maltin, among others.

Hey Patrick I just noticed looking at the photo of theater building that it looks like the front of the building may have been the other side of the building at one time. If you look at the top it looks like a false front. But it doesn't look like its far enough back. OK I'm changing what I just wrote. Now I'm thinking the front of the building got extended.

Yes, I think you're right, Don. It looks like they removed some windows and added doors and a kiosk.
And a marquee, of course.

See I show up here sometimes. :-) I'm pretty confident this building was built this way. Behind the tapered wall part in the middle of the building, I'm pretty sure there was a taller section to accommodate the theatre part... so the tapered wall is not the back wall of the building. The photo is taken from Main street, which would have been crazy busy with heavy traffic back then, and there's not really anything behind the theatre. I've seen several old theatres in small towns that look almost like it too. Behind those windows would have been the offices, maybe living quarters for workers (I've heard of theatre workers living in the theatre in some of these places), the projection equipment (almost said computers.. haha.) And although I was little the last time I was in the place (1985ish?), I remember the front half having the lobby and snack area, and then the theatre part was pretty deep, had a balcony (that I don't think was open at that point), and it very much looked like a big movie theatre. I Sooooooooooo would have loved to have seen it back in the early days! It was 1990 or 91 when they tore it down to build a failed Hardees restaurant. We could see them tear it down from my 6th grade classroom windows. It was entertaining.

We love it every time you show up, Patrick. Thank you for stopping by. I think you're right about the building as well.
