The moon is currently casting a giant hay low. I look at Jupiter but could not see it's moons. Might be because it is close to our moon? Started from Arcturus looking for d Bootes. Was off and ended up finding 6 Bootes and the double star right next to it. That was kind of interesting. It sucks having to keep running back in to check my charts.

I was looking for a star chart to post showing 6 Bootes but was not able to find one. I got its designation from Sky & Telescope's POCKET SKY ATLAS.

If the skies are clear enough tonight, I'm going to at least look at both Jupiter and Saturn.

Yeah, I'm hoping that the headband headlight that I bought awhile back will let me look at charts while observing without bothering my night vision. I also put a bit of balloon over it to dim the red light function some more. Looks like it'll work. It sounds like the moon will get in the way of seeing any of Saturn and Jupiter's moons, darn it. I still plan to get some more practice tracking down sky objects tonight, though.

I also have a copy of the Sky Atlas for Small Telescopes, which will help me find the deep sky objects that aren't on the planesphere.

My GIANT planisphire goes down to Mag 4 to 5. My Sky & Telescope POCKET SKY ATLAS goes down to Mag 7.

Can you look up the star that I am posting about in your SKY ATLAS? Go to the constellation BOOTES then find Muphrid. Go north and slightly west. Bootes 6 is 3 degrees away from Muphrid and has a nice double star right beside it.

Unfortunately this sky atlas isn't as good as I hoped it would be since I have to look up the names of the stars in the constellations, but fortunately those are easy to find online which is what I did for Muphrid.

Sorry it's a little blurry, but I don't have a camera that's good for close-ups.
