In the comments he said he used Testors semi-gloss. That's probably the stuff to use.

I think I'm going to devote Friday to hiking and/or drawing. I've been working on coming up with ideas for labeling my sketchbooks and last night I came up with a real good one for my Stillman & Birn Epsilon Series sketchbook which will probably be used mostly for ink drawing. I have a sticker or a decal coming from Rails to Trails that is going to go on the front of my nature journal. I found a relevant sticker that I'm going to get for on the front of my sketchbook that will be for urban sketching.

Yesterday I ordered some Windsor & Newton Professional Artist Grade watercolor half pans. These will be what I will upgrade to when I use up what I already have which is student grade.

I got to get with drawing and painting. Tomorrow I'm dedicating to it. I would like to finish my bird drawing and maybe start my Nature Journal. I've already started working on the map of hiking that I walk that I would like to put in the beginning of it. I came up with a strategy for using my sketchbooks. I am going to work from both ends towards the middle. I will work on my theme from the front and work on my trial stuff from the back.

I am working on my scrub jay drawing. I put the first wash on it. Waiting for it to dry. Don't really know what I'm doing or if I'm getting it right?

I'm using several things for the first time like my brush cleaner that dries my brushes upside down and a Windsor & Newton Cotman #6 111 Round Brush and my Faber-Castell Clic & Go Water Cup and my Windsor & Newton Sketcher's Pocket Box and my Porcelain Palette. I'm drawing the bird in a sketchbook that is not meant for watercolor so I am expecting buckling or warping.

Making mistakes is part of learning and I'm learning a lot today.

Oops, yeah it is. I hope that the sketchbook will be OK. How are all the new things working? I haven't heard of a brush cleaner like that before.

Everything is working great except for what I'm actually doing. I think my scrub jay looked better before I painted it.
