That thin cloud layer isn't always easy to see at night, unless you're really looking. I suspect many people don't look up much, too.

I was just out looking. I am between storm fronts here and the sky that is clear looks very clear. I can see the cloud front that's moving in from Pittsburgh. This might be a thing that I can exploit in the future. Does anyone else know about clearer then normal skys between storm fronts?

I don't know anything about it, myself. Not sure if it's possible to find that information online, either.

Well, it looks like the new tripod is going to work. The camera on my phone isn't the best so the picture is kind of poor, but here it is.

I won't be able to try it out tonight, though since the clouds rolled in.

I popped out real quick last night with my 7x50 binos and got a good look at the moon. I was hoping that one of the things by it would be a planet but I could not tell.

I wonder how close to Spica Jupiter is? Would we be able to get them both in the same field of view?

The field of view for our 7x50s is 6.8 degrees. From Spica to Theta Virgo is right about 7 degrees. We could actually use this to test our binoculars.

According to the things I'm looking at Jupiter will be in between Theta and Porrima but closer to Theta. Theta and Porrima are like 8 degrees apart. Porrima is the brighter of the 2.

WOW that looks nice! How does it compare to the one you were using? It works well enough once you get it set up, but I miss the bit that supports the legs. It does make a difference.

Cool, I found a map for it. Also, I'm going to start a fresh thread for this soon. Will lock this one when we're done with it.

They are calling for a clear night tonight here. Now I have to figure out what to try and view and with what? Did we miss the meteor shower?
