Are you troubled by strange noises in the middle of the night? ...Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement or attic? ...Have you or your family ever seen a spook, spectre or ghost?
I was just wondering if any of you actually believe in ghosts and to what extent and why?
I would put myself on the side of thinking that they are possible, based on the belief that there are many doors we have not unlocked in science yet I'm sure, and ghosts might be some event of either unknown energy or the mind, although I guess the whole 'spirit' aspect is nice to have faith in as well, but is thta a belief or I'd rather there be some kind of existence after death in this life?
Anyway was just curious of the board's stance on ghosts and spirits.

I've never actually seen a ghost or had a ghostly encounter. Yet my mind is open to the possibility that they might exist. Even if they don't actually exist, they're the basis for many good stories.

I have gone a few time to Bachelor's Grove which is a famous haunted location near me (Google it, it's a pretty cool story, if not I'm sure I'll post about it here at some point.), and have felt a very strange effect and seen a couple strange things there, so I have had some experiences that lead me to think that is possible. In the apartment I am living in now for example, I once perfectly smelled an old woman's perfume in my hallway a couple times in a few minutes, and that as I have read is classic ghost phenomena. What I am not is a crack pot or a psychic or a nutter. I want the real truth not some get rich quick mumbo jumbo! lol

I never thought you were. So you just smelled the perfume for a few minutes and then it went away? That' interesting. Am curious about what happened in Bachelor's Grove.

Shadow Ghosts are the only thing I know that are close to what PD said, shapes in Human form that looks like shadows, some reports say wearing brimmed hats of all things. The Bachelor's Grove thing was pretty simple, when I was about 17 my friend took me for a ride towards there, and when we were approaching it, I had the feeling that 'something' was on the left hand side of the road which unknown to me was where the Grove was. We did not go into the Grove that night, but rather looked at the trail entrance to the Grove from outside and then returned to my friend's house, all the while I had the feeling that I had been affected by something there. When we returned to his house I felt high (Sorry, but unless I want to write a thousand word essay on this, 'high' is the best I can do... ), I was noticing the smaller details on things like the tiles on his ceiling and other similar things, this effect lasted for about two to four hours. We went back there many times, and it never affected me as much as that night, but I have had intense feelings of dread at the small pond on the cemetery grounds, seen moving balls of light (From a distance admittedly) and seen things that are there for sure like odd carvings in the trunks of trees, and the baby's grave that everyone used to leave presents there for. The place has also been abused over the years, and has seen much better days even more so since ten years ago when I would visit the area. Here are a couple links on the Grove: www.bachelorsgrove.com/www.bachelorsgrove.com/History/index.htm

Those sound like some hair-raising events. Sounds like a fascinating place all the same. Thank you for sharing these experiences.

Like I said, it is that personal experience that make me believe that science or spirit, there is something going on in the field of ghosts and hauntings...

I agree, there are a lot of frauds and just down right tall tales out there, something I try to make sense of at NFSW.
They are all fun though, no matter the result.
Only people who piss me off are the con men trying to make money off of the paranormal.

Too true, which is why I find the subject a bit of a crap shoot as well as very fascinating.
