See I show up here sometimes. :-) I'm pretty confident this building was built this way. Behind the tapered wall part in the middle of the building, I'm pretty sure there was a taller section to accommodate the theatre part... so the tapered wall is not the back wall of the building. The photo is taken from Main street, which would have been crazy busy with heavy traffic back then, and there's not really anything behind the theatre. I've seen several old theatres in small towns that look almost like it too. Behind those windows would have been the offices, maybe living quarters for workers (I've heard of theatre workers living in the theatre in some of these places), the projection equipment (almost said computers.. haha.) And although I was little the last time I was in the place (1985ish?), I remember the front half having the lobby and snack area, and then the theatre part was pretty deep, had a balcony (that I don't think was open at that point), and it very much looked like a big movie theatre. I Sooooooooooo would have loved to have seen it back in the early days! It was 1990 or 91 when they tore it down to build a failed Hardees restaurant. We could see them tear it down from my 6th grade classroom windows. It was entertaining.
