Time for a second phase on this thread, I think.

Well looking at my giant planisphire and books if we can see it with what we got M3 looks like one of the few targets for the next few nights. Now I have to find out where Saturn and Jupiter are?

Towards the end he says we can see it with binos.

That's good. I'll have to watch these later, though. Have to go now.

M3 will be right at my zenith again. I'll start with binoculars and a laying back chair and if I find it I'll then move up to a telescope.

Looks like Jupiter is in between Spica and Gamma Virgo.

So that's 2 targets that aren't to far apart.

The sky is clear. The sun has set but not dark out yet. Got my stuff ready. Have to wait for 23:00 for targets to come into view passed my building.

I can see Jupiter and Spica now naked eye. I still have to wait a bit for for Arcturus and M3.

Could not see Jupiter's moons with 7x50 binoculars. Jupiter is between Spica and Gamma Virgo closer to Gamma Virgo. Eyeshields would not fit on BUSHNELL 10x50 Legacy Binoculars Formulated and preformed my first star hop from Arcturus to M3.Arcturus 6.5 degrees > d-Bootes 4 degrees > g-Bootes 3 degrees > M3. I believe that I did view M3 with my 10x50 binoculars as a faint fuzzy.

Remember when we started? The first thing we looked at was Jupiter. I think Jupiter's moons were easier to see then. With my 10x50 binoculars it was difficult but I think I seen 3 moons.

I'm thinking of trying to preform this star hop again tonight with my 15x70 binoculars. The fields of view for both my 7x50 and 10x50 binoculars are very close to the same 6.8 / 6.5. The field of view for my 15x70 is smaller 4.3 degrees. I'm wondering how that will affect the star hop?

It shouldn't make that big of a difference. Good luck with your star hop tonight. Sorry to hear that the eyeshield don't fit the 10x50s.
Are you going to try to view Jupiter's moons and M3 with a telescope?

There wouldn't be any problems with targeting Jupiter in a telescope but M3 would be an accomplishment for me that I would like to try.

Saturn is suppose to be at maximum tilt this year. I haven't viewed Saturn yet.
