It really depends on what you want to do.

Oh, Don, from what I'm reading in the Nightwatch astronomy book, you really want to avoid the low-cost (under $ 200), beginner's telescopes. They come with lots of stuff, but are just crap. The book has a lot of good, basic information on both binos and telescopes, too.
Also, according to them, a good pair of 7x50 binos is a good selection for general stargazing.

According to them, you're not going to get a good telescope for under $300.

The book also gives you a run-down on the accessories and has a nice comparison chart on different types of telescopes and mounts.

This video has lots of good info but it seems like he takes a long time to get to it.

From what I've studied so far it looks like a refractor telescope would be the right one for me.

Yeah, same here. The guy in the video above does have some good information, but I have to agree that he does take too much time getting to it.

I just mentioned to my sister about buying a telescope and she seemed OK with it. I'm thinking of sending for it tomorrow.

I am thinking about sending for a Meade 80 mm Polaris. This is an experiment and a gamble that might get me killed. Right now the later is OK. If it works out hopefully in the future I could get a better telescope.

Sherlew can you think of a better telescope that I should get?
