Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom is getting an early start on the holiday in 2016. The first night of the event will be Sept. 2-- three days before Labor Day and more than eight weeks before Halloween.
Disney World announced the dates Wednesday. The extra-ticket event will be held on 29 nights: Sept. 2, 8, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, 29, 30 and Oct. 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30 and 31. Tickets are not yet available, and Disney has not announced prices for 2016.
The event's "Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular," which debuted at last year's Not-So-Scary, is returning this fall. Visitors also will be able to see Mickey's Boo-to-You Halloween Parade and the "Happy HalloWishes" fireworks during the party.
Not-So-Scary includes trick-or-treating throughout the theme park, which closes early for the event.
A post on the official Disney Parks Blog indicates that the policy about costumes at the event has been altered. Costumed attire is OK for guests ages 14 and older, but they are "strongly discouraged" from wearing layered costumes or using props that engulf the body. "They may be subject to additional security screening," the post says.
Since last Halloween, Disney World has taken on additional security procedures, including the presence of metal detectors at the entrances of its theme parks.
Additional prohibited items listed on the event page on disneyworld.com include weapons or simulated weapons. Guests who are 14 or old may not wear costumes that reach or drag on the ground, capes that go below the waist or masks of any kind. People who are under age 14 may wear a mask "as long as the mask does not cover the entire face and eyes are visible," the site says.
