In the year 3,000 the current military established enlisted men/officer hierarchy will have long sense been abolished after America finally realizes how unamerican it is, being a class centric vestige of a long gone era that never should have been started in the first place.

This reminds me of the Dean Koontz novel "By the Light of the Moon." In it, three people are kidnapped and shot up with nanobots by some guy running an experiment to see if he could develop enhanced humans. They do develop some interesting talents and the neatest is the ability to fold time and space.
Oh, I predict that in the year 3000, Dean Koontz's novels will still be found in all sorts of formats all over the world, including a direct download to the human brain.
